SAFETY MESSAGE FROM CALFIRE - The public is reminded to stay vigilant on

current fire conditions. Please continue to adhere to road closures and any

evacuation warnings or advisories. If you see electrical wires on the ground, stay

clear and contact PG&E immediately. Trees and poles with deep charring,

particularly if still smoking, should be considered hazardous. Please drive slowly as

emergency personnel are in the area. As you re-enter your property and evaluate

damage, be aware that hazardous conditions may exist, particularly if a residence or outbuilding

has burned. Hazards may include asbestos, heavy metals, by-products of plastic

combustion and various other chemicals.

Have you been issued a boil water notice and have questions on how to effectively

boil your water? Check out this information form: http://www.lakecountylac.com/

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

First responders urge residents to use extreme caution when returning home

and adhere to the following safety precautions.

PROPANE FIRE DANGER

Call provider to inspect tanks and relight pilots. If you smell gas, shut

off the valve immediately. Don't be the source of an additional fire in

your community!

PROPANE LEAK CHECKS:

Lake County Gas and AmeriGas Propane will waive the leak check fee for all Lake

County Gas and AmeriGas Propane customers.

For updates, corrections or additions to this list,

Lake County Gas and Amerigas Propane wants to remind all gas utility consumers who

are returning to their homes following a wildfire-related evacuation to exercise caution

and to call their energy provider if their system was turned off or if they have had any

interruption of service. According to Brilynn Johnson, regional manager for AmeriGas,

all propane customers should contact their provider before attempting to turn their system

back on. “Leave it to the experts,” Brilynn said. “Only trained technicians should be

operating these systems, and the National Fire Protection Association requires a leak

check to be performed whenever propane supply is turned off prior to re-instating

service.

Dangerous Chemicals

Asbestos, Heavy Metals, Byproducts of Plastic Combustion and various other chemicals

may be present in your and neighborhood.

Electricity

Before turning the electricity on, make sure all appliances are turned off. Once you are

sure all appliances are turned off, if there is no fire damage to your building and the meter

does not have any visible damage, you may turn on the main circuit breaker.

Food Products

If your refrigerator has been non-operational for an extended period of time, the food

inside it has gone bad. When in doubt, throw it out! Use gloves and safety glasses

(provided at the Point Of Distribution).

Disposing of food when returning:

For residents returning to homes, all three waste bins (trash, recycled and

green/compost), can be used to dispose of all food products. Trash bins will be picked up

approximately 3 days after a neighborhood is repopulated. Residents without bins should

contact South Lake Refuse at (707) 994-8613 to schedule replacement bins.

Twenty dumpsters will be strategically placed in the repopulated neighborhoods for the

disposal of food items. Dumpsters will be attended by volunteers to ensure that only

appropriate items are disposed in these dumpsters.

Toxic substances and Household Hazard Waste (HHW), such as paint and home

hazardous products, will not be accepted in the dumpsters. A HHW sweep through the

neighborhood, at no cost to residents, will be announced when more information is

available. For burned out areas, HHW that is surrounded by ash should not be touched

without proper protective gear, as there can be potential health hazards associated with it.

A Local Assistance Center, located at the Middletown Senior Center/Library, will

distribute gloves and masks daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
